While in the East music has always been key to maintaining or restoring the psychophysical balance, Western culture has only recently started rediscovering the therapeutic value of music on body and mind. In the West, music therapy is a recent phenomenon, which is gradually evolving into scientific research, although science is not the only testimony to the positive response of the body to music. Just listening to music, we can reach a state of total well being, hence the need to compose music to support therapies such as acupuncture, massage, Reiki and alternative therapies in general. In this CD, you will listen to music played by instruments chosen according to the theory of the 5 elements, the doctrine governing Chinese acupuncture. Each of these elements, Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water, is in resonance with a specific internal organ or with an energy system or chakra. According to this theory, each element is also associated with a specific group of musical instruments, as follows:
WOOD: Includes all woodwinds and corresponds to the energy of the liver and the gall bladder.
FIRE: Includes string instruments and corresponds to the energy of heart, small intestine and pericardium.
EARTH: Includes all the instruments made of earth or clay, like the ocarina, and corresponds to the energy of spleen, pancreas and stomach.
METAL: Includes instruments like the xylophone, the Tibetan bowls, brass and gongs. It corresponds to the energy of the lungs and of the large intestine.
WATER: This element is represented by the drums and corresponds to the energy of the kidneys and the bladder.
The modes used to compose these melodies are based on the ancient Greek Modes. These, in old times were used to calm and relax the mind, and therefore healing the listeners. These modes resonate with the endocrine glands and with the chakra system and in the Golden Age of ancient Greece, these modes were used to calm, stimulate and promote new and diverse moods.
There are seven melodies, each corresponding to a chakra, a Mode and a Natural Element with the related musical instruments. The order in which the melodies are played follows the chakra system, so we will start from the first one:

First Chakra:
MULADHARA - ROOT, the MODE is F LYDIAN
The instruments used are: synthesizer, small celesta, bells, tubular bells, flugelhorn, bouzouki and xylophone.

Second Chakra:
SVADHISHTHANA - SACRAL CHAKRA, the MODE is C TONIC
Instruments used are: viola, violin, cello, double bass, bass drum and orchestra.

Third Chakra:
MANIPURA - SOLAR PLEXUS, the MODE is G MIXOLYDIAN
The instruments used are: harp, darbuka (clay percussion), violin, electric bass and viola.

Fourth Chakra:
ANAHATA - HEART, the MODE is D DORIAN
The instruments used are: violins, violas, cellos and double basses.

Fifth Chakra:
VISHUDDHA - THROAT, the MODE is A AEOLIAN
The instruments used are: African percussion, accordion, violin, santur, sampled electric bass and Celtic harp.

Sixth Chakra:
AJNA - THIRD EYE, the MODE is E PHRYGIAN
The instruments used are: male and female voices, sampled choirs, synthesizer and African wood blocks.

Seventh Chakra:
SAHASRARA - CROWN, the MODE is B LOCRYAN
The instruments used are: tenor recorder, real and sampled, soprano recorder, real and sampled, bass flute, violin, bouzouki, double-bass pizzicato.

The Karma purification meditation, it is based upon different age of our life. The Root chakra relates three months before birth, sacral chakra relates to our birth, solar plexus chakra relates to our childhood, the heart chakra relates to our adolescence and grown up age, the throat chakra is related to our present and how to express our feelings now, the third eye relates to a past life, finding elements of a past life that will heal the present life, finally the crown chakra relates to our life in the future, projects that we might have, dreams that we want to accomplish.
The word Karma in this project is that element that takes us from one life to the other and brings us in this life. Cleaning karmic aspects of our life in the past, nowadays we will be able to live a different life, in harmony and balance.
