WHAT IS REIKI?
The laying of hands on the human body
is not a new idea. If pain is experienced, or children injure
themselves, the first
thing we are inclined to do is to put our hands on the affected
area, to “make it better.” Human touch provides warmth
and feelings of caring and love. Many kinds of therapy incorporate
touch as part of the healing process.
Healing is not solely the removal
of the physiological symptoms, as is commonly thought. Reiki
healing is a complete process and
fully resolves the cause of ill health, as well as the symptoms.
Through the healing process, we return to the state of alignment
with our Higher Selves – our true way of being.
Reiki is a spiritually guided technique that supplies life-force
energy. The Reiki practitioner receives this energy and channels
it, through the hands, into the body of the client. Working in
this way with the energy centers in the body, the Reiki practitioner
is able to restore a sense of well being in the client.
The origin of Reiki healing is uncertain, but it has been associated
with the miraculous healing techniques of Jesus and the Buddha.
Developed by Buddhist monks in Tibet, Reiki has now been adopted
in the western world and is used to treat a number of different
ailments, both mental and physical.
Reiki is one of the greatest gifts you can receive and share
with others. Reiki is universal love, compassion, harmony and
balance that instills in the recipient a sense of power and wholeness
- the path to joy and happiness. The practice of Reiki is a simple
technique involving the laying of the hands on the body. Its
healing touch allows the restorative energy to go through the
body by way of the hands of the healer who channels this pure
and clear energy from a higher source that we will call the Universe.
Students of Reiki begin by channeling
this powerful energy into their own spiritual and physical
bodies. A good way to practice
the technique is to give Reiki to the food one eats, to the water
one drinks, to one’s pets, to the plants in one’s
home, to the room one sleeps in and to the entire house. Beginning
practitioners of Reiki will soon be surprised by the vibrant
energy that will surround them. It is also possible to give Reiki
to any medication one may take. The universe is a daily source
of this vital energy. We need only learn to accept and use it
for the creation of well being. The practice of Reiki healing
continues to spread as more and more people discover its benefits.
It is deeply relaxing; it relieves stress and other ailments
that we are subjected to in our daily lives.
It is through the hands of the Reiki
Healer that the patient receives the Universal Energy. It is
through his/her hands that
the patient’s energy becomes cleared and cleansed of energy
that has accumulated in the body and is in need of release. This “stuck” energy
can cause physical and emotional symptoms of illness, from mild
discomfort to severe pain. The Reiki treatment works by freeing
the Chakras of unwanted energies. Chakras are the energy gateways
into the body. There are many Chakras, but we will be taking
under consideration the seven major Chakras.
HOW DOES REIKI WORK?
Reiki works through attunements, which are sacred rituals that
only a Reiki Master can perform. These attunements connect the
healer to the source of the Universal Energy for life. The connection
to the source and the ability to channel the energy is further
enhanced with additional attunements. The energies of the practitioner
are never depleted, as the Reiki energy is channeled. The person
giving Reiki experiences an increase in Ki (the energy that radiate
from and nourishes all living things), which allows him/her to
perform several healing sessions in succession. The beauty of
Reiki is that it is always positive, always provides healing
and benefits both the Practitioner and his/her clients.
To connect with the Reiki Energy, the receiver places the hands
upon himself/herself or on others, and spontaneously channels
the energy through his/her own body. Since Reiki is guided by
a Higher Intelligence, the mind and experience of the practitioner
does not affect the Reiki energy. The mind of the client does
not affect the healing energy, whether or not he or she believes
in Reiki. The energy knows where to go and what to do.
Reiki will heal the cause of a problem on whatever level it
may exist - mind, body or spirit, just as the Ki in the body
can also be affected by thoughts and feelings. Negative thoughts
and feelings are the main cause of restrictions to the flow of
Ki. This is supported by the fact that the negative attitude
and beliefs are responsible for many illnesses in the western
world. Reiki bypasses the conscious mind and works directly with
the unconscious one that is the repository of these thoughts
and feelings breaking them up and washing them away. Thus, the
Ki flows freely and balances the functions of the physical body
as well as restoring health.
If we think of the body as a house full of lights, the attunement
process is similar to the act of turning on the electricity.
The electrical switches connecting to the lights represent the
Chakras or energy centers in the body. The Chakras link our physical
bodies to our Higher Selves. These switches need to be tested,
to ensure that there are no blockages to the flow of electricity.
Occasionally they require repair. In the same way the Chakras
in our body need to be balanced for the Ki to flow correctly.
Once the switches (Chakras) are cleared of obstructions, the
electricity itself (Reiki Energy) is able to flow freely and
make the house (body) light up! After being attuned, each individual will be in contact with
the Universal Energy for life. |
